What is it about wine that is so exciting?
Somehow instinctivly, when we drink it, we know whether or not we like it far before we understand why.
That is what Winethug is all about.
Let's tear down the pretense and get back to what is exciting and romantic about what's in the glass!
Let's make up our own set of rules, vocabulary and language!
Let's make up our own minds and develop our own opinions instead of reading some old farts financed reviews!

I've been writing wine lists and buying wine for restaurants for years now and I would still be considered a very young man in this business. I've watched peoples faces light up as I share something new with them thousands of times. These are my experiences. This is my insight on trends, tricks, and treats available to the public. Let's have some fun! This is my life with wine...

Hey Winethug, I have a question. What should I bring to my friend's xmas party? He is a cheapskate so I don't want to spend too much, but I want to bring something we will all enjoy. The menu will be assorted apps and xmas cookies. thanks!
Well MCR, this is a great question given the season. So this will be a two parter.
This time of year we find ourselves involved in many social events that consist of large groups. Whether it's bringing a bottle of wine to a party, or picking a wine at a restaurant for your company party it's important to find something that works for everyone. I find that wines with minimal oak that have a little fruit to them go far with making alot of people smile.
As far as pairing with cookies and light appetizers, the same goes. So with that said here's the skinny on what to look for...
The word of the day is JUICY. (See my vocabulary section for a definition.) A wine that is JUICY has mas appeal and can generally be purchased at a reasonable price. I've linked a few wines below for you. Today, Spanish, Ole!
For White: Rioja from Bodegas Muga. This is their Barrel Fermented delicious white Rioja! It is a real hit at any table. This should be sold for between 15 and 18 dollars. The link is below.

For Red: Rioja from Sierra Cantabria, shown in the link below is the Crianza which has a brownish LEAD and label. The one you are looking for is going to be orange and is called their JOVEN rioja. This should be sold between 8 and 11 dollars.
